TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Administration’s water resources agency has lodged a budget up to Rp110 billion to continue the construction of the city’s giant sea wall known as the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) in North Jakarta.

The project initially was held by the developers of the man-made islets located at the Jakarta Bay. But the canceled continuation of the project made the islet’s developers back out from continuing the sea wall, which will be handled by the Jakarta Administration together with the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry.

“Around 34 kilometers of unbuilt sea wall still remains,” said Head of the Jakarta water resources agency, Juaini, on Wednesday, October 16.

Juaini explains that the initial giant sea wall project would be built to a vast 46.2 kilometers. It was initially supposed to be jointly built by four parties that include city administration, state-owned enterprises, regional owned enterprises, and the private sector.

The water resources Head said that they plan to accelerate the construction to minimize future risks that threaten the residents of the capital city if it were delayed even further. This year, the Jakarta administration constructed a 6.5-kilometer section of the Sea Wall.
