TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Server-based digital payment providers are striving to quicken the adoption of the Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS) on their merchants. The financial technology or fintech players are determined to meet the deadline of the system nation-wide implementation on the first January 2020 set by Bank Indonesia.

“It is in progress, at least 100,000 merchants of ours have adopted the QRIS,” LinkAja CEO Danu Wicaksana told Tempo, Monday, October 14.

Danu reiterated that there are still over 150,000 merchants that must be equipped with the system within the remaining three months until the year’s end. However, he was optimistic that the target could be fulfilled.

On August 17, 2019, Bank Indonesia as the regulator launched the QRIS for digital payment services through server-based electronic money apps, electronic wallets, and mobile banking.

The commitment to meet the goal was also upheld by DANA, the e-money and digital wallet provider managed by PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe.

“We continue to expand the implementation of QRIS gradually. For sure, we are truly supportive and comply with the timeline set by Bank Indonesia,” DANA CEO Vincent Iswara remarked.

Meanwhile, private lender Bank Central Asia (BCA) director Santoso stated that his side found obstacles in preparing the QRIS implementation and many things to be prepared, such as the differences in pricing or costs compared to the previous system.

“There are always obstacles, especially in technical sides, and we will encounter it,” said Santoso, who is also the head of the Indonesia Payment Systems Association (ASPI).
