TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo expressed regret on the repeated arrests of state officials over graft charges. The latest sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday, October 15, saw Indramayu Regent, Supendi, nabbed over graft.

“I constantly warn that the last arrest should be the last, but why is it always repeating,” said Tjahjo at the Vice Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta.

The Indramayu Regent’s arrest marks the 119th case that sees a regional head being nabbed over corruption charges. Tjahjo said that he, and the anti-graft body, constantly remind regional Heads to avoid such practices.

However, the Home Affairs Minister said that he cannot blame the political party that has backed the suspects nor does he blame the government. He maintains that the individual involved in the corruption are the ones to blame.

As of 03:00 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) today, Supendi, together with four other people were nabbed in KPK’s sting operation commenced at the Bongas Sub-District in Indramayu. The regent was arrested together with his personal assistant, driver, an employee of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, and a businessman.
