TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) refugees reportedly still remain in Wamena, Papua, after 105 were previously evacuated out of the conflict-stricken region with help from the NTB Provincial government, Bima City District administration, Central Lombok, and East Lombok.

“A number of people from NTB serving as civil servants here still remain,” said NTB Social Agency’s social empowerment, Haji Amir on Monday, October 7.

Amir had been the coordinator of the NTB refugees during their stay at the refugee camp set over Army’s Sentani, 751 infantry battalion. He and his colleague Amran are scheduled to leave Papua this Tuesday morning from Biak.

He recalled being assisted by fellow NTB residents stationed in a number of Papuan state administrations spread in Jayapura, Sentani, and Wamena. Amir said the volunteers mostly consist of civil servants stationed in the region. He said his wife and children were already evacuated out of Wamena.

The NTB residents in Papua were evacuated gradually from Sunday, October 6 with 50 evacuated and Monday, October 7, that saw 27 evacuated from Sentani to Bima aboard Lion Air flights. There were East Lombok residents transported aboard a Garuda flight.
