TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is planning to open up a museum as a tourist attraction and research center of the komodo dragon on Komodo Island, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT).

The NTT spokesman Marius Jelamu said the museum construction will be part of the island restoration as the conservation area.

“Komodo museum will be equipped with audiovisual facilities about the process of the dragon breeding, so tourists will have an understanding before directly witnessing it in wildlife,” said Marius.

Marius said that the museum's existence is necessary to educate the public about the breeding of the giant lizard.

The museum will also be equipped with knowledge about the ecosystem and biodiversity on the island, scientific documents about the history of the dragon, as well as the history of the international tourist site that is named as the world’s new seven wonders of nature.

"Other than being a tourist destination, Komodo Museum will be a research place for experts on dragons," Marius added. Various research on the deadliest animal will be available in the museum as well.
