Police Name 95 Corporations Suspects in Massive Forest Fires

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police have named 11 corporations as suspects in the massive land and forest fires that produced one of the worst transboundary haze this year.
“There are 95 corporations that are being legally processed with 84 being overseen and 11 under investigations,” said the National Police's Director of Special Criminal Cases, Brig. Gen. Fadil Imran, on Monday.
The 11 corporations are: PT AP Riau, PT SSS in Riau, PT HBL in South Sumatera, PT DSP Jambi, PT MAS Jambi, PT MIB in South Kalimantan, PT BIT South Kalimantan, PT PGK in Central Kalimantan, PT GBSM in Central Kalimantan, PT SAP in West Kalimantan, and PT SISU in West Kalimantan.
“All of these suspects, either individuals or corporations, have burned a total amount of land reaching 7,264 hectares,” said Fadil.
A total of 325 people have been named suspects in the forest fires with 37 of them already in the hands of the judiciary for violating Law No.41/1999 on forestry, Law No.39/2014 on plantations, and Law No.32/2009 on environment protection and management.
