TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Muhammadiyah Students Association (IMM) chairman Najih Prastiyo deemed the death of a student during a protest held in Kendari, North Sulawesi, a hard-proof of authority committing crimes against humanity.

“This is a matter of crimes against humanity that was committed by members of authorities [at the scene],” said Najih on Thursday, September 26, regarding the death of Immawan Randi.

He revealed that Immawan Randi was an IMM member that actively engages in numerous organizations across the region.

Randi, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries after what is believed to be a rubber bullet fatally striking his right upper chest amidst the non-violent protest.

IMM asserted that it will seek justice by urging police and Muhammadiyah to form an investigation team.

Najih Prastiyo maintained that the National Police Chief (Kapolri) had set a permanent procedure (protap) in guarding a demonstration that strictly forbids the use of bullets. The North Sulawesi police Chief has adhered to this procedure by annulling the use of rubber bullets.

“We must demand firm action from the North Sulawesi Police Chief,” said Najih.

As of today, the police chief maintained that his institution had acted upon permanent procedure despite hard-evidence suggesting otherwise.
