TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) asserted that the student rally at the House of Representatives (DPR) on September 23-24 was not mobilized by the anti-graft agency. The objection was conveyed following the viral video accusing that the anti-graft agency organized a meeting with students before staging the demonstration.

"That is not right," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah in a press release on Wednesday, September 25.

Febri said the university students came to his office on September 11-12 to discuss anti-corruption issues. He called on all parties to respect the intention of the students and the public in delivering their voices. "Don't let the students be accused of being mobilized by certain parties," he said.

The KPK spokesman said the information about the meeting was previously distributed through a press release. At that time, the Student Executive Body (BEM) from various universities visited KPK since Wednesday, September 11, at 21:00 Jakarta time until the next day, September 12, as a form of support for the anti-graft body.

The students light the candles forming "SOS" letter and fired laser light to the KPK building, stating "Nyalakan Tanda Bahaya" (turn on the danger sign) since Indonesia is increasingly plagued by corruption emergencies with the debatable prospective leader at the anti-graft body, the KPK Law revision, and the revision on the Criminal Code (RKUHP). Following the act, they held a meeting at KPK's press conference room.

"KPK also wants to thank the public for the support in order to KPK to continue its work in eradicating corruption," Febri said.
