TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) has now discouraged to pass the revisions of Criminal Code Law (RKUHP) into law in this office term. The House speaker Bambang Soesatyo said the government and lawmakers agreed to postpone the draft bill ratification until indefinite time.
“The delay will last until an unspecified time, it could be in this period or the next period to come,” said Bambang after the plenary meeting in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 24.
Bambang stressed that the delay had been decided during the House’s consultative body or Bamus meeting on Monday and the session with Legal and Human Rights Minister today afternoon. He also claimed that the factions were not expressed objection.
“All factions, to my knowledge, have no objection,” he said.
Previously, Bambang said he was optimistic to pass RKUHP in this period of his office term. However, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo demanded the draft bills to be carried over to the DPR next period of 2019-2024. President reasoned 14 articles required further reviews and studies.
Bambang continued that the House opened discussions to recover or remove problematic articles stipulated in RKUHP.
