TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The statement issued by Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko stating that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) potentially fends-off investments drew criticism from Prabowo Subianto’s spokesman, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak.

Pak Moeldoko’s statement goes against the facts and tends to be misleading. Almost every study states that a government that has a trusted legal institution, which includes corruption eradication, is much more trusted by investors,” said Dahnil on Monday, September 23.

He strongly argued that investors often complain about the high cost of economy and the element that drives it, which is corruption.

“No country in the world has a respectable economy but also has high corruption rate,” said Dahnil.

Dahnil also felt the need to mention Moeldoko’s mindset mimicked the type of people who see corruption and bribery as tools to smoothen the economy, which he said is “deluded” and “could ruin the economy in the long run.”

Previously reported, the presidential chief of staff revealed the reason why the government helped rush the amendment of the revised law on corruption eradication commission or KPK Law. Moeldoko claimed 44.9 percent of the public agreed for the agency’s legal standing to be revised and that the KPK is a turn-off for investments.
