TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy head Laode Syarif asserted there was no political motive behind the suspect-naming of former Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi.

“There is no political motive. If so, we must have announced it days ago,” said Syarif in Merah Putih building, Jakarta, Thursday, September 19.

Syarif reiterated that the anti-graft body have informed the suspect status to Imam a few weeks before the announcement on Wednesday, September 18.

“We have sent [a letter]. When we name someone as a suspect, we are obliged to deliver a letter, and he (Imam) received it several weeks ago,” he added.

Therefore, Syarif hoped Imam who recently resigned from his position in President Jokowi’s Cabinet will soon make into KPK’s summons.

“Investigators have called in him again as he avoided several summonses. We truly appreciate him to attend next summons,” the KPK deputy remarked.

Previously, the anti-graft agency named Imam Nahrawi a suspect for alleged involvement in the graft case involving the 2018 grants project in the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI). KPK suspected Imam to have received a total of Rp26.5 billion through his assistant Miftahul Umum from 2014 to 2018.
