TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly claims the government had already discussed the KPK Law revision No.30/2002 with two of the anti-graft agency’s leaders; Agus Rahardjo and Laode M. Syarif.

The minister’s statement conflicts with the statements by KPK leaders who asserted they were never involved in the discussion of the law revision.

“I communicated with Pak Laode and Agus Rahardjo at my office on this matter. I conveyed the points within the law subjected to the revision to them,” said Minister Yasonna after the House of Representatives (DPR) plenary meeting on Tuesday, September 17.

However, the minister did not elaborate the specific moment the meeting took place but asserted that talks ranged from KPK’s status change that will see the agency become a subsidiary to the executive and its employees become civil servants (ASN).

Most importantly, Yasonna explained to the two KPK leaders regarding the formation of the Supervisory Board that will determine permits regarding wiretapping.

As of Tuesday, September 17, the House passed the KPK Law revision and effectively annulling the possibility of a meeting to take place between President Jokowi and the leaders of the anti-graft agency regarding the legislators’ controversial move.
