TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have commenced discussions about the draft revisions of Law No. 30 concerning Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK Law revision).

The discussion is launched on Thursday evening, September 12, after the House received the Presidential Letter issued by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“All processes have been passed and agreed in the plenary to be canvassed in the next level,” said the House’s legislative body member who is also NasDem politician, Taufiqulhadi, in the DPR building, Jakarta, Thursday, September 12.

The meeting kicks off at 08:15 p.m. and is opened by Gerindra politician Supratman Andi Agtas.

The government’s side is represented by Legal and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly and Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo.

Yasonna claims that the meeting is held under the procedure. “A presidential letter is not required plenary [meeting] but DPR’s consultative body. We hear, and we obey,” he said.

President Jokowi has given a green light for discussions about the KPK Law revision despite community coalition, academicians, and even university students firmly rejected the topic as it has high potential to weaken the anti-graft body.
