TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohamad expressed grief via Twitter upon the passing of former Indonesian President Bacharudin Jusuf Habibie, also well-known as BJ Habibie, deemed as a big loss.

“The passing [of BJ Habibie] is truly a big loss,” the prime minister tweeted yesterday from his account @chedetofficial.

As quoted from The Star; “He is my good friend, so I feel very sad. He must have been very sick; I haven’t seen him in a long time. I offer my condolences to his family,” said Dr Mahathir after attending Binary University’s 35th-anniversary gala dinner.

Meanwhile, the Twitter account of the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta @MYEmbJKT expressed grief in a post yesterday. The image that was posted sees the young Mahathir meeting BJ Habibie in a black and white photo.

At around 18:05 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) BJ Habibie succumbed to heart failure at the age of 83 while under the medical supervision of medical experts at the army hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Subroto.

State Secretary Pratikno announced that President Jokowi has ordered BJ Habibie’s funeral will be a military funeral led by the president himself.
