TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Government is in the process of completing six areas part of the sidewalk revitalization program in the capital. In relation to the program, Head of the Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Hari Nugroho provided information related to the street vendor arrangement on sidewalks.

"With regards to street vendors, no occupying the sidewalk. But we can see, ideal sidewalks are 1.5 meters minimum," Hari said on Friday, September 6, 2019.

The arrangement of street vendors on sidewalks as previously stated by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. Anies claimed that he is in the process of making a roadmap concerning the arrangement of street vendors on sidewalks.

Hari said that there are special conditions if street vendors were to be arranged on the sidewlaks. He asserted that the condition of the sidewalks must also be taken into consideration. "If the sidewalk is six meters, eight meters, and having spaces, well, we want to humanize human," he said.

Consequently, Hari said that street vendors can sell their goods on specifically assigned sidewalk and under several requirements, especially cleanliness, tidiness, and environmentally friendly. "Our sidewalks are equipped with andesit-granit, with concrete stems, suddenly poured on with coffee, and meatballs, it’s a pity," Hari said.

Hari admitted that he had delivered the program to the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Agency and mayors to educate the vendors selling their goods at temporary locations.

The determination of the locations for street vendors, according to Hari, is still in the roadmap discussion process, including on what street vendors and how they can operate on sidewlaks. "The roadmap is just beginning to be discussed, what are allowed and what are not. But the small 1.5 meter [sidewalk] is pedestrian's rights. The stalls will be designed by the UMKM Agency," Hari said.
