TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced that it would accept any form of sanction from FIFA following the chaotic end to the Malaysia-Indonesia match for the 2020 World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday, September 5.

PSSI secretary-general Ratu Tisha said it was the organization’s commitment to upholding fair play.

“As one of the organizations focusing on sports, we must uphold fair play. This means that we must accept defeat and respect the winners. If we are in the wrong, we must admit our mistake and accept the consequences of that mistake,” said Ratu Tisha on Friday.

PSSI’s announcement was also a direct response to Malaysia’s football federation's (FAM) plans to report the incident, in which Malaysian supporters were intimidated by a small number of Indonesian supporters.

On Thursday’s match between Malaysia and Indonesia, a number of Indonesian supporters committed excessive protests by running to the track surrounding the pitch, which resulted in the game being halted for ten minutes in the second half. Indonesian players even tried to calm the fans down.
