TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national soccer team (Timnas Indonesia) conceded defeat in the 2020 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match against Malaysia in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium, Jakarta, Thursday, September 5.

Alberto Goncalves scored two goals for Indonesia in the 12th minute and the 39th minute, while the three goals were secured for the rival by Mohamadou Sumareh (37', 90+6') and Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad (66').

Failed to gain a point, Indonesia will likely face sanctions from International Federation of Association Football or FIFA after supporters committed excessive protests by running to the track surrounding the pitch.

The game was halted for ten minutes in the second half. Indonesian players even tried to calm down the fans.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) reportedly will file a report about the incident, according to Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports Syed Saddiq on his Instagram account.

“I am informed by FAM that they will submit an official report to FIFA. I will also send an official report to the Indonesian government,” said Saddiq in his post. He also uploaded a video of him and Malaysian supporters watching the game in the tribune.

Saddiq also said that Malaysian supporters received bad treatment by Indonesian team fans. They were pelted with water bottles and gas bombs. He and other supporters even trapped in the stadium since the chaos continued after the game ended.
