TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Masinton Pasaribu, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III overseeing legal affairs, claimed that the government and the parliament have agreed to amend the Law No. 30/ 2002 on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) since 2017.

“The government and DPR have come to an agreement in 2017,” said Masinton to reporters on Wednesday, September 5.

The PDIP politician explained there will be four points to be revised, namely tapping operation, supervisory board, the authority to stop an investigation, and employee affairs.

Masinton also claimed that factions have agreed to take over the discussion on the bill revision, and so it will be the DPR’s initiative. “It’s been settled by the Legislative Body (Baleg).”

The DPR will canvass the law revision during a plenary meeting today, September 5. Based on the meeting agenda, the Baleg will present factions’ views on the proposed revision and issue a decision to be the DPR’s proposed bill.

Many non-governmental organizations and anti-corruption activists rejected the amendment of the Law since the beginning of the talks in the DPR. They assessed that the draft bill will weaken the anti-graft body.

Also, the DPR is considered to discuss the draft bill quietly before it is brought up in today’s plenary meeting.

Meanwhile, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah on Wednesday, September 4, said that his institution did not acknowledge and was never involved in the discussion of the draft bill by DPR.
