TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jayapura Raya, Papua is in a clean-up mode after a string of riots in the region. Police and Indonesian Military personnel, as well as state workers, joined in the effort.

In Entrop district, Public Works and Housing Ministry mobilizes several heavy tools to clear up the debris of burnt stores in front of Lapangan Trisila.

Personnel of Cenderawasih Military District Command help the clearing process along the road manually with brooms. Some excavators are also deployed in Batu Putih, near the gate of Jayapura Port.

The protest on Thursday, August 29 against the racist acts towards their fellow Papuan turned into an anarchist, and the mass fired the stores.

Several public facilities, people’s stores, and office buildings throughout the 10-kilometer length of the riot route from Abepura to Jayapura were caught fire.

After the riots broke out in Papua, TNI and Police personnel tightly secured several vital objects, such as ports and governmental offices. Most of them were tasked in Abepura considering a riot broke out again three days ago and claimed one life due to gunshot and injured dozens of people

Abepura Kamkey, where a deadly crash occurred, is gripped by a tense atmosphere. The road in front of Nanyak 1 dormitory is closed. Mobile Brigade police stand guard the access to the site.
