TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro users, especially units sold between 2015 and 2017, are banned from bringing the laptops on board, or even as checked items in Indonesian airports.

Angkasa Pura II (AP2) has instructed aviation security (Avsec) at Indonesian airports to conduct intensive inspections to keep certain models of the 15-inch MacBook Pro from entering airplanes.

The policy is a follow-up on the Transportation Ministry's decision to ban passengers to bring select models of the 15-inch MacBook Pro to the cabin or as checked item.

"Avsec personnel conduct double checks on passengers' luggage using metal detectors; at Security Check Point 1 and Security Check Point 2," Achmad Rifai, AP2 Sr. VP of corporate secretary and legal secretary, said in a written statement Saturday, August 31.

Rifai said the Ministry still allows certain MacBook Air models to be carried on board. However, passengers are prohibited from using and charging 15-inch MacBook Pro units built in 2015, as the model's battery tend to overheat, posing safety threats.
