Light 2.7 Earthquake Hits Cirebon

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 struck the city of Cirebon in West Java Friday morning, August 30, the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake happened at around 02:20 a.m., around 8 kilometers southeast of Cirebon, BMKG staff Hendro Nugroho said in a written statement.
The quake took place at a depth of 10 kilometers, making it a shallow quake, with the epicenter located at 6.75° South latitude and 108.62° East longitude.
The BMKG said that the quake had no tsunami potential.
The tremor happened as "result of local fault activities in the area around Cirebon," said the Head of BMKG Tangerang.
Based on public reports, the shocks felt in Cirebon City had an intensity scale that ranged between I and II MMI.
As of 03:15 this morning, there were no aftershocks.
