TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan voices his doubts that the relocation of the capital city to East Kalimantan Province will curb congestion in Jakarta.

According to the governor, severe traffic jam in his region mostly caused by private vehicles. “I’m not sure about it because the largest contributor of congestion is domestic vehicles,” said Anies when met in the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 27.

He assesses that the operation of the central government does not significantly affect the metropolitan’s traffic.

Moreover, Jakarta will still become a business hub despite the capital move. So the city’s street will remain crowded.

In a bid to alleviate congestion in Jakarta after the capital relocation, Anies determines to improve the public transportation as to attract people convert from private vehicles.
