TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Expert on transportation from the Soegijapranata Catholic University of Semarang, Djoko Setijowarno, forecasts that activities of Soekarno – Hatta Airport will witness 50 percent drop as a direct effect of the capital city move from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.

“Most people who travel to Jakarta consist of official travels, which will also lead to the dropping number of hotel visitors,” said Djoko on Monday.

Djoko also projects that the move to the new capital city in East Kalimantan will reduce the amount of traffic over the Trans Java toll road.

“The toll road will certainly drop, Jakarta-Cikampek will feel the effects,” said Djoko who also mentioned that the Ramadan homecoming tradition will see a shift of pattern.

He argues that the types of transportation that have been the public’s main option that is dominated by land and air transport will shift to sea transportation.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo yesterday announced that Indonesia’s capital city will move from Jakarta to two areas in East Kalimantan.
