TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tokopedia CEO William Tanuwijaya said that sales transactions made through the Tokopedia application had reached IDR 19 trillion. "Our transactions as of this month is almost IDR 18 to 19 trillion. So one percent of the Indonesian economy is in Tokopedia," William said in Bandung on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

William explained that the transaction was recorded based on the number of Tokopedia users which exceeds 90 million visitors monthly. William claimed that Tokopedia is experiencing an increasing trend in transcation. "Now, monthly transaction had exceeds USD 1 billion. Growth remins positive," he added.

He further stated that economic transaction in Indonesia for 2019 is forecasted to exceed USD 1 trillion. For a slice of the pie, Tokopedia targeted that its transaction value for 2019 could reach USD 15 billion. "As of this year, may be it can (reach) USD 15 billion, from Indonesia. Until the end of the year hopefully it can be achieved," William said.

William asserted that the Indonesian economy can be equally distributed. "We hoped that the Indonesian economy is no longer centralized, but distributed," he added.

William expressed his optimism that online transactions will continue to grow. "Tokopedia does not sell any goods from Tokopedia. These are sellers from all regions, Aceh to Papua. Imagine, this is 1 percent of the economy and 70 percent of it are new sellers who had not own a business, and now they own a business. This is a growing economy," he concluded.
