TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta to hold Indonesia's 74th Independence Day ceremony in the city's reclaimed island. Governor Anies Baswedan said it aims to show that the man-made island is a public, open space.
“We will establish a ceremony there as a symbol of our land that used to be controlled by a private party,” said Anies when met in Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), Wednesday, August 14.
According to Anies, the island was closed for the public so far and even tightly secured. So he expected the event as a momentum to show that the island is accessible for the public.
In addition, Anies said that the national ceremony will be an indication that the island belongs to the state following the waving of the red-and-white flag.
In conjunction with the ceremony of the 74th Indonesian Independence Day, Anies issued a gubernatorial instruction No. 71/2019 concerning the ceremony establishment in the reclaimed island on Saturday, August 17.
