Indonesian Athletes Stranded in Hong Kong Airport Safe at KJRI

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced that the 12 swimming athletes from Jakarta who were stranded at the Hong Kong International Airport caused by the massive protest, are now safe in the Indonesian consul general (KJRI) for Hong Kong.
“They are now at the KJRI and are in a safe condition,” said governor Anies at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
The massive protests and clashes between anti-government protesters and local authorities entered its straight tenth week as of Monday, August 11. Thousands of protesters brought one of the busiest airports in the world to a complete halt.
Governor Anies Baswedan explained that the city’s athletes were already in Hong Kong since August 6 to participate in a training program and were scheduled to return to Indonesia on August 12.
However, after the latest development, the swimmers will be rescheduled to fly back to Indonesia on August 14 in Garuda Indonesia’s first flight of the day. Governor Anies Baswedan was appreciative for the KJRI’s swift response to the issue.
