TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After managing Indonesia’s capital without a deputy governor for the past year by his side, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expects the special committee (pansus) tasked to elect a deputy to fulfill its obligation.
“Don’t let this pansus be recorded in history as a committee that failed to meet its obligation. Other board members are also surely waiting for the committee’s results,” said Anies in South Jakarta, Sunday, August 11.
The governor was left to work with the absence of a deputy governor after Sandiaga Uno resigned from the position to pursue the 2019 presidential election as Prabowo Subianto’s vice-presidential candidate.
The former Minister of Education further hopes that the pansus would quickly hold the assembly needed to appoint a deputy governor. The process to search for Sandiaga’s replacement has been hampered by multiple reported reasons.
“There are numerous events with only one body to attend them all. A deputy can share some protocol tasks if I had one. But as of now, I must do all of this on my own,” said Anies Baswedan.
