TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo is optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth will continue to climb in the future despite the slightly sluggish growth in the beginning.

“It will be 5 percent this year, but we can reach 6 percent in the next five years,” said Perry in the 53rd anniversary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Friday.

The BI governor said he was upbeat this prediction would come to fruition following a great mix of policies and synergies among multiple instances.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) previously recorded an economic growth of 5.05 percent (year-on-year/YoY) in the Q2 of 2019 and a 4.2 percent increase compared to that of the Q1.

“The cumulative economic growth is 5.06 percent,” said BPS head Suhariyanto on Monday, August 5.

The economic growth in the Q2 of 2019 was rather more sluggish compared to the same quarter in the previous year of 5.27 percent. It was also lower than 2019's Q1 that saw a 5.07 percent growth.
