TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he planned to replace the capital's offical vehicles with electric vehicles (EV) once they were sold at affordable prices.
“The Jakarta administration will include [electric vehicles] in the city’s E-catalogue if the products that enter Indonesia eventually get sold at affordable prices,” says the Jakarta governor today.
Anies acknowledged that in their current form electric vehicles are still sold at a relatively expensive price, thus procuring them would be a waste of the regional budget.
The governor hoped that the EV industry would comply with the recently ratified Presidential Decree on Electric Vehicles. He also reminded the central government to prepare a roadmap for the use of electric vehicles in Jakarta.
President Jokowi on Thursday ratified the decree to stimulate the automotive industry in designing electric vehicles and preparing the establishment of the electric vehicle industry in the country.
Jokowi was upbeat the EV industry would thrive in Indonesia, as the main materials to create batteries as the most essential parts of electric vehicles were available domestically.
