TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PLN's Jakarta distribution promised to add the much needed electric supply for the city in order to reduce the dependence toward external electricity following the massive blackout that hit parts of the Java Island, including the capital.

“This would reduce the dependence for supplies coming from the island’s eastern region in East Java,” said the company's Jakarta Distribution General-Manager, Ihsan Assad in City Hall today, August 7.

According to Ihsan, the supply constitutes 1,000 megawatt supply this year and 1,000 megawatts for 2020. As of now, the city is equipped with a power plant with the capacity of 3,500 megawatts located at the PLTU Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok.

A similar sentiment was shared by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan who said that the additional internal electric supply will enable the city to avoid experiencing blackouts caused by the lack of supplies from external origins.

“It can be recovered without waiting for supplies from outside if a shutdown reoccurs,” said the governor.
