TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry is set to request for every university to register social media accounts of their college freshmen, lecturers, and employees in an attempt to prevent radicalism.

"I want them to be registered to know who are exposed to radicalism. Don't let [radicalism] happen," said Minister Mohammad Nasir in Central Jakarta, Friday, July 26, 2019.

However, Nasir asserted that he does not plan to curb people's freedom of expression, especially those in higher education. Nasir then encouraged them to continue freely express their criticism, constructive advice, and any form of opinion.

"The ones that are not allowed are 'let us form a caliphate in Indonesia.' This one example is the root of radicalism," said Nasir, who warned that he will seek help from a "more competent" institution to help identify suspected radicals if campuses do not report on suspected radicals.

A research done by the SETARA Institute found that college campuses have become one of the places where radicalism is able to fester radicalism, some cases state that it also often happens among new college students.
