TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) will award the fifth and sixth Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) for their contribution to child protection issues, said KPAI head Susanto.

“KPAI will specially grant the award to Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri for her initiatives in establishing KPAI through the Presidential Decree (Keppres) 77 Year 2003 concerning the Indonesian child protection commission,” said Susanto in a written statement, Friday, July 19.

The award for SBY, meanwhile, will be given for pioneering the issuance of several child-friendly policies, such as the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on the national movement on sexual crimes against children (GN Aksa) and the establishment of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.

Additionally, the commission will present awards to ministries and state institutions, governments—provinces, regencies, and cities—the Juvenile Rehabilitation Institute (LPKA), service institutions, mass media, child issue figures, and inspirational child figures. The award presentation is held to commemorate the National Children's Day on July 23.

KPAI will also bestow a lifetime achievement award to Indonesian legendary singer Titiek Puspa. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is slated to attend the awarding ceremony.

“Hopefully, these awards will become an inspiration for all stakeholders of child protection to develop Indonesia into a safe country for children,” Susanto said.

The awarding ceremony "Anugerah KPAI 2019" will be held today, July 19, at iNews TV station, MNC Tower, Jakarta, at 7 p.m. local time.
