TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Non-active deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Taufik Kurniawan is sentenced to six years' imprisonment in a corruption case related to Kebumen and Purbalingga regencies' special allocation funds (DAK).

The panel of judges of Semarang Corruption Court also sentenced the PAN politician to a fine of Rp200 million, substitutable with four months in jail.

“The KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) honors the court’s ruling delivered today,” said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah in response to the verdict read on Monday, July 15.

In addition to the main sentence, the judges obliged Taufik to return Rp4.2 billion to the state and his political right was stripped off for three years after serving his time.

The judges found Taufik guilty of receiving a bribe of Rp3.65 billion from Kebumen Regent Yahya Fuad for managing the DAK in the 2016 revised state budget plan (RAPBN-P). He was also found guilty of receiving Rp1.2 billion in bribe money from Purbalingga Regent Tasdi for managing the regional DAK in the 2017 state budget.

Febri hoped the additional sentence on the revocation of political rights, such as to Taufik Kurniawan, could be consistently implemented, especially in corruption cases committed by politicians.

“Because it harms the trust of the people who had voted for him. Moreover, the defendant is a leader in the DPR,” Febri concluded.
