Jakarta Environment Agency: No Decision on Artificial Rain Yet

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Environment Agency chief Jakarta Andono Warih said that no agreement has been made regarding weather modification efforts for the nation's capital. Andono said the agency is still discussing the option whether artificial rain would be created, or if it is even necessary.
"It has started raining these days. The other day was the peak [of dry season] so we mulled on [artificial rain]. But we haven’t reached a decision," he said in Jakarta, Monday.
Andono said the government of Jakarta would do any means necessary to create a better Jakarta. His agency, he said, is reviewing all possible options—including artificial rain.
The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) had said it would modify the weather by creating artificial rain in a bid to reduce Jakarta's air pollution. BPPT chief Hammam Riza said he had received approval from Governor Anies Baswedan to execute the plan in mid-July.
He said that Anies Baswedan requested the artificial rain is done no sooner than after July 10, and no later before school terms start.
