TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration announced that it planned to install ten new PM 2.5 air quality sensors as the city faced a civil lawsuit on escalating pollution levels.
In the short term, Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH) head Andono Warih said the administration would spend this year’s budget on two air quality detectors.
“There will be eight additional ones next year if I’m not mistaken,” said Andono at the City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday.

Andono predicted that an entire set of equipment would cost the administration up to Rp5 billion, which would be entirely covered by the Jakarta regional budget (APBD). The government believed this step would enable them to map the city’s air quality.
“It will not only detect one bad location. Because there are other areas that are relatively acceptable,” he said.
Presently, Jakarta has eight of the equipment spread across eight locations with five permanent ones and three mobile air quality detectors that shift locations periodically.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the data from AirVisual, which were often referred to by the public, came from a detector located at the Embassy of the United States of America, Gambir, Central Jakarta. According to Anies, the data shown by AirVisual only represented air quality around the Gambir area.
