TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government planned to hold another meeting in light of the technical strategy to lower airlines tariff of low-cost carriers (LCC) today, July 8. The session will be led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution.
“A coordination meeting this afternoon will discuss and determine the details of a regulation (concerning the reduction of airfare),” said the Coordinating Ministry’s secretary Susiwijono Moegiarso via a short message to Tempo, today.
The meetings on airfares had been held since July 1 and resumed on July 4. Today’s session will be established to follow-up a plan to grant fiscal incentives from the government and a number of aviation companies in order to reduce air transportation tariff.
In the previous meeting, the government and airlines agreed to set discounts for LCC at 50 percent from the upper limit cap of airlines tariff. However, the lower tariff only takes in effect on certain days and hours.
State airliner Garuda Indonesia director of commerce, Pikri Ilham, explained the lower tariff might be executed through discounts scheme. Thus, his corporate offered a discounted tariff for flight departure on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on special routes.
Susiwijono further reiterated that the government is still canvassing detail information on schedules and routes. However, he assured today’s meeting would conclude a policy.
