TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that his administration would tighten the implementation of vehicle emissions test starting 2020 by requiring every four- and two-wheeled vehicles operated in the capital to run the test.
“Hopefully, mechanisms of the regulation will be completed within one or two weeks ahead,” said Anies in the City Hall, Tuesday, July 2.
Anies said all motorized vehicles must pass the emissions test. Otherwise, it will affect the extension of the vehicle tax. Vehicle owners will also be subject to a higher parking fee than those who surpassed the inspection.
“It’s better to overcome the emissions test so the parking tariff will be charged the same as others,” he added.
The obligation to pass the emissions test is the city administration’s effort to revive the city’s poor air quality. To date, said Anies, the main cause of the high air pollution in Jakarta is a large number of motorized vehicles, among others.
Therefore, the administration is upbeat to implement an integrated transportation system to meet Jakartan’s needs. Governor Anies also called on the public to utilize public transportation.
