TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - Ma’ruf Amin announced he will step down from his current position as Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) chairman once he is officially inaugurated as the country’s vice president-elect.
“I will step down once I am inaugurated as the vice president,” said Ma’ruf Amin at the MUI headquarters today.
He maintains that he currently has yet resigned from his position at the MUI since the current active vice president is still held by VP Jusuf Kalla.
The inauguration of the president and vice president-elect is scheduled to be held on October 20, 2019, which is four months from now.
Ma’ruf once said that he will resign as MUI chairman after he is officially named as the vice president-elect on September 22, 2018.
“I would probably resign as soon as I am named as vice president when I am elected,” Ma'ruf Amin said at the time, which does not correspond to his current decision.
