TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) publically yearned for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to be led by someone who tends to be more moderate considering that the commission is in the process of selecting a new leader.

“This not just applies to KPK but every line, we want to have a leader who is moderate and will fight for the existence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI),” said BNPT Head Suhardi Alius in his office on Monday.

Suhardi mentioned this during a meeting with the selection committee in charge of the selection process of KPK’s new future leader held at the BNPT headquarters in central Jakarta on Monday, July 1st.

The BNPT has formed a number of criteria upon selecting a new KPK leader, which will veer off from those who are indicated to be exposed to radical ideas and will prefer candidates who show signs of being highly tolerant, is able to uphold the nation’s five ideologies (Pancasila), and will fight for the NKRI.

According to one member of the selection committee, Hendardi, the involvement of BNPT is a direct mandate from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo right after the KPK selection committee was formed.

“What’s more important actually is to not be easily intervened in any shape or form, which include ideological interests,” said Hendardi.
