TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi met with Japan’s Foreign Minister Taro Kono at the G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan. The brief meeting between the two lasted for 20 minutes and touched on several bilateral and regional issues.
Minister Taro Kono thanked Minister Retno’s presence at the summit and commended Indonesia’s role as a leader in ASEAN. He also expressed his wishes to contribute to the welfare of the Indo-Pacific region.
Taro Kono also positively responded to the signing of several memoranda of cooperation between Indonesian and Japan’s government, which included programs such as the Japanese soldiers’ skeleton repatriation, and international aid to reconstruct Central Sulawesi’s provinces affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami last year.
Minister Kono also expressed his hopes to continue the partnership in overcoming ocean plastic waste.
Minister Retno Marsudi and Kono also discussed issues related to the Pacific Region, ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers' Meetings, the South China Sea, and Korea.
