Indonesia Invites Japan Companies to Invest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan announced that the Indonesian government is committed to further establish a conducive business climate. The announcement was made in front of an audience that consists of Japanese corporate leaders, .

"The ease of investment in Indonesia will surely be better than what it used to be," said Luhut during the Indonesia Round Table Business Meeting in Osaka, Japan, on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

Luhut revealed that the message he delivered was based on the direct instruction of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo who continues to skim Indonesia's bureaucracy regarding permits.

"The president does not want investors to be hampered by investment processes," said Luhut.

He explained that Indonesia's economy is currently growing in a stable rate with an average of five percent within the past five years. Luhut also asserted that legal certainty is a priority for foreign investors who wanted to invest in Indonesia.

The meeting was attended by 21 Japanese companies, such as the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Daihatsu Motor Co.Ltd., Honda Motor Co.Ltd., Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Mitsui, Nippon Steel, Sumitomo Corporation, and Toyota Tsuho Corporation.

Indonesia was represented by Minister Luhut Pandjaitan, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita, and Head of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong.
