TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bappenas chief Bambang Brodjonegoro said that the study on relocating the nation's capital city is almost completed. As of today, the study's completion rate is at more than 90%.

Bambang said the review would be delivered to President Presiden Joko Widodo or Jokowi, and announced before the end of 2019.

"The main points [of the study] are location, the planning of its size, and the business models to develop," Bambang said after a work meeting with the House of Representatives' Finance Commission, Tuesday, June 18.

What is known so far is that the new capital would be located in Kalimantan. According to Bambang, the island has the least potential for natural disasters compared to other areas.

There are three areas that are strong candidates for the new capital's location; Soeharto Hill, Nyuling Hill, and the Palangkaraya Triangle. Bambang said the government continues to deliberate in deciding the location. "We are doing this very carefully," he said.

During the work meeting, state representatives questioned why the government is very insisting to relocate the capital city. Bambang answered that one of the main reasons is the high population density in Java Island, where more than half of the entire nation resides.
