Police Study Tempo Magazine's Findings on May 22 Riot

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police planned to study the findings published on Tempo Magazine in light of the alleged involvement of a former member of Mawar Team as the intellectual actor in the May 22 Riot.

“We examine all information,” said National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra when asked for confirmation on Monday, June 10.

Mawar Team was an activist abductor in 1997-1998. Fauka Noor Farid, one of the team members name, emerged in the findings of an investigation conducted by Tempo.

The police investigation team, Asep added, was still seeking evidence to reveal the mastermind behind Jakarta riot. He said that the police had a special investigation method to deal with the two-days riot.

As of date, the police could not conclude the involvement of any group yet. “We’re still examining it, to see whether [the riot] involve a certain group,” he said.

Asep further ensured all information published by Tempo in light of May 22 riot did not come from his institution as the source, underlining that the National Police would not publicly reveal information before the investigation completes.

“We never give information publicly because this issue is still being investigated.”
