TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Public Order Police (Satpol PP) have confiscated 448 packages of firecrackers and fireworks of various types from operation conduction in six districts in North Jakarta. The Satpol PP also detained 10 fireworks vendors.

Chief of State Apparatus Investigation and Sanction of North Jakarta Satpol PP Budi Salamun, said that the confiscation and detention was in accordance with Regional Regulation No. 8 of 2008 on Public Order. "To minimize the distribution of firecrackers in North Jakarta prior to Eid Al-Fitr," Budi said on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

From hundreds of packages, the largest number was recorded by the Tanjung Priok District with 113 packages, followed by 107 packages confiscated from the Pademangan District, 99 pakages from Cilincing District, 91 packages from Kelapa Gading District, 31 packages from Penjaringan District, and seven packages from Koja District.

As many as 10 firecrackers vendors were immediately detained and questioned for information. Meanwhile, all of the firecrackers will be stored at the Satpol PP warehouse in North Jakarta, to be destroyed later.

"The distribution of firecrackers will result in criminal sanctions if it can be proved that [the vendors] intentionally distribute it," Budi concluded.
