TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said President Joko Widodo or Jokowi would meet this afternoon with a number of retired members of the Indonesian Military (TNI)—some of them were ex-soldiers of the Army’s Special Forces (Kopassus)—at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

“Yes, he [Jokowi] would meet with Widjoyo Suyono, Wismoyo Arismunandar, Sintong Pandjaitan, Rais Abin, and chairmen of PP (retired soldiers association] from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force,” he said at the Presidential Complex in Jakarta on Friday, May 31, 2019.

Widjoyo was the sixth Kopassus commander from 1967-1970, while Wismoyo Arismunandar was the ninth Kopassus commander since April 1983 who was later succeeded by Sintong Pandjaitan in May 1985.

“Perhaps in the past days there were retired military personnel who had different viewpoints on the present government, so we hope this meeting with the seniors could become a bridge of communication,” he said.

The former TNI commander added the May 21-22 rioting was among the potential issues discussed in the meeting. “I think that is one of them,” Moeldoko said.
