BI Urges for Bank-Fintech Interconnection

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) wants financial technology (fintechs) companies to establish better connections and linkages with banks' digital system. The desire is included in the central banks' five visions for the Indonesian Payment System (SPI) for 2025, aimed at expanding the digitalization of the financial and economic systems.
"We urge fintechs to improve their financial services, and at the same time act to inter-link with digital banking," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said during an international seminar dubbed 'Digital Transformation for Indonesian Economy' held at the central bank's headquarters in Jakarta, Monday, May 27.

According to Perry, banks and fintechs can utilize Application Programming Interface (API) to establish barrier-free data connection—a technology that has helped digital businesses grow exponentially.
Banks that have applied the services include BCA and BNI.
BI recorded 54 fintech firms listed I their system, including Cashlez Mpos from Cashlez Worldwide Indonesia, Pay by QR from Dimo Pay Indonesia, and Toko Pandai from Toko Pandai Nusantara, among others.
Perry said that civilization continues to bring about changes to technology—making them faster, more expansive, and more affordable. Perry said that giant companies—a.k.a. major banks, must be able to adapt and adopt, in a bid to compete with new players such as fintechs.
