TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan called on Jakarta people not to worry about traveling in the capital city as the situation is safe after the riot on May 21-23.

“Don’t be afraid to go anywhere because Jakarta is safe. Today (May 23), the situation is relatively calm, so I suggest all Jakartans to run their daily activity as normal,” said Anies after attending a closed meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla and national figures in Jakarta, Thursday evening, May 23.

Anies also asked traders of Tanah Abang Market to continue their business as to maintain the economic activities.

“Situation on Jalan Thamrin and several roads around Tanah Abang, Petamburan, Slipi was tense, but now it’s relatively quiet. Tanah Abang market will begin operation tomorrow,” he added.

However, the National Police have yet revoked the Siaga 1 alert status, and Jalan Thamrin from HI Roundabout (Bundaran HI) is still closed until May 25, 2019.

On Thursday evening, May 23, Anies attended a closed meeting held by Vice President Jusuf Kalla. National and religious figures and legal experts also presented in the three-hour meeting taken place in the VP's official residence.

Asked about the planned peaceful rally aimed to escort Prabowo - Sandiaga submitting a legal dispute over the 2019 election result to the Supreme Court today, May 24, Anies Baswedan said there would be no particular security measure.

“Nothing special because that is the legal process. Let it be guarded constitutionally,” he concluded.
