TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police finally fired tear gas at protesters of the May 22 mass rally that was dubbed ‘Gerakan Nasional Kedaulatan Rakyat’ (People's Sovereignty National Movement). This shot was carried out after the protesters insisted to go on with the rally although the police had gave them an order to disperse.

Since 23:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), Monday, May 21, 2019, the mob who had clashed with the police while demonstrating in front of the Bawaslu office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta, retreated to Jalan Wahid Hasyim. However, after several people were released, the masses still did not disband. The police insisted that the masses to disband themselves immediately.

Bearing no result from the negotiation, the police finally made their move to apprehend the protesters who were still at the location and fired the tear gas at them to disperse the May 22 rally.
