TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko stated that the tax boycott called by Gerindra Deputy Chairman Arief Poyuono is a flawed political education.

“One must understand their rights and obligations, don’t publically call for people to boycott tax. That is a flawed political education,” said Moeldoko at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta on Thursday, May 16.

Moeldoko also mentioned he personally believes presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto does not share the same view as Arief since he believes Prabowo is a patriot deep within.

“I’m sure Prabowo has that [patriotism] but it’s the people below him that are rather acting in contradiction to their boss,” said Moeldoko.

On Wednesday, Arief Poyuono called for people to collectively boycott taxes as a result of forcibly acknowledging the new government elected by the people in the 2019 presidential election.

“Refuse to pay taxes to the government formed by KPU’s result that is illegitimate. That is the people’s rights,” said Arief.
