TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) arrested nine suspected terrorists in a number of regions. On Tuesday, the Special Anti-terror Detachment (Densus) 88 arrested eight terror suspects in Central Java and one in East Java.

The National Police's spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo said most of the men arrested were former combatants of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

"Of the eight people arrested in Central Java, seven joined combats in Syria for more than three years," he told Tempo yesterday.

All nine suspects are assumed to be members of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), the Indonesian branch of ISIS.

According to Dedi, the group was planning to launch terrors, but the Densus 88 managed to arrest them before they were able to carry out the attacks.

Terrorist observer Al Chaidar said there were allegations that the captured JAD members were planning to launch attacks during the announcement of the election results, which would be on May 22.
